The speaker in the talks that follow is John Kirwood who is the founding pastor of a full gospel church in Canberra, where he ministered for thirty three years.

His early education was at the Royal Military College, Duntroon and the University of Melbourne where he obtained an engineering degree, all of which no doubt qualified him for an army career in the Royal Australian Engineers, however he says his real education began when the Lord Jesus baptised him with the Holy Spirit.

The army posted him to Malaya where he was accompanied by his wife Jill. On returning to Australia John found his parents attending a Pentecostal church in Geelong. Being greatly convicted by his parent’s testimony he went to a meeting with them, and in a prayer line was baptised with the Holy Spirit with the Bible evidence of speaking in tongues. He speaks of this experience as a revelation of the forgiveness and glory of the risen Christ and is quick to add that the Bible promises this gift to all who ask it of God.

At this time the army had posted John to the Royal Military College as Instructor in Military Engineering. He has said that sending a young man who Jesus has just baptised with the Holy Spirit into one of Australia’s premiere military institutions was like putting a firecracker into a letter box! The Commandant, supported by the chaplain generals, ordered him to not testify (even in his own house) to the officer cadets who were young men in their early twenties. Well, for a time the lid blew of the letter box and several of the cadets received the baptism with the Holy Spirit (three of them later became founding pastors of full gospel churches), and when John was transferred by the army, he resigned his commission and left the army to be free to serve the Lord.

During these events a small group was meeting in Canberra as a result of John’s testimony. This group grew to become a church of several hundred souls.

John’s salvation message has been based upon the Apostle Peter’s inspired preaching on the day the church began, that is the Day of Pentecost, and in particular on Acts 2:38-39 where in response to his hearers’ question, “What shall we do?”, Peter said,

“Repent and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

Over the years John has also taught the great prophetic themes of the Bible. These are based upon the foundation of God’s plan for Man that is found in the promises of God to the fathers (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), as recorded in the book of Genesis. In this ministry he was encouraged by the Apostle Paul’s statement in Romans 15:8, that Jesus Christ came to Abraham’s descendants specifically to confirm that the promises of God to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, are the truth of God. What a contrast to the teaching of many false prophets today who teach that Genesis is myth and legend!

John has also presented many seminars on the Book of Revelation from the Historicist viewpoint. He has travelled overseas to speak on this important subject and was a frequent visitor to Fijian full gospel churches.

In time he plans, the Lord willing, to add prophetic talks to this web site, but because today’s religious confusion has muddied the waters, his first priority is the salvation message, so his hearers will be able to drink of the clear waters of life.
